What is the number one rule when time traveling? Don’t change anything! When we envision going back in time it seems the smallest action can have a huge effect on the future. Why not apply this same idea to the present? Even if it is a small action it can make a BIG difference!

At Amplified we’re keeping this sentiment in mind as we safely celebrate GivingTuesday this year.

What is GivingTuesday?

Back in 2012 New York’s 92nd Street Y partnered with the United Nations Foundation to start GivingTuesday. In 2019 it became its own organization. The idea was to start a movement that encourages individuals and organizations to be generous. According to their website, “GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe. We believe that generosity leads to greater civic participation and other pro-social behaviors.”

We put together a list of simple ways to participate in GivingTuesday:

Take To Social Media

This one you can do right from your own couch! Like, follow, and share posts from your favorite non-profit organization. In 2020, something as simple as engagement on social media can mean the world for a local business. Do research on a social topic that interests you and share links and resources you found on your page. A great social media practice is to only leave positive comments on other users posts. That one you can do year round!

Write a Letter

Spread those warm feelings around! You can write a letter to help support members of our military, first responders, healthcare workers, or an elderly family member or neighbor. They will love to read your kind words.

Pay It Forward

It seems like everyone is going through the drive-through at some point lately. Next time you’re in a long line getting frustrated as the minutes tick by, consider paying for the order of the person behind you. It’s guaranteed to make their day! The kind act could also inspire the workers to spread some cheer. It’s a positive domino effect.

Start a Conversation with a Child

Instilling a giving spirit in children is a wonderful way to ensure the future is filled with generosity. Talk to the special kids in your life about what social issues they are interested in. Brainstorm with them on the ways they can get involved with those causes. Give them opportunities to feel how great it is to help someone!
